Sailfish on the book
Fishing off Ixtapa Mexico
Flyfishing Mexico

Fly fishing for billfish is best described as the ultimate experience and the ultimate adrenaline rush. To have a blue marlin or sailfish rise up among the hookless teasers, watch him charge the boat and take your fly: this is sight casting at its best.

There is no mystique; it is just taking the challenge of light line fishing to a new level.

To have an opportunity to hook and release a billfish on the fly, you need to be in an area that has the potential to raise several fish a day.

With 60 points, Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo was rated by Sport Fishing Magazine as the number two location in the world for the best chance to hook a sailfish. Iztapa, Guatemala was rated as the number one location with 62 points and such other popular areas as the East Cape of Baja and the Florida Keys only had 55 and 48 points respectively.

Another good option is our fantastic roosterfish fishing. A rooster does not take a fly as readily as a sailfish, and unlike a sailfish which can be teased back to the boat several times, you usually only get one shot at a rooster. But, then again, for that reason they are considered to be our Pacific Coast permit. Year round, we have lots of roosterfish here, with the main season being from June to December and sometimes on to January. A day spend looking for the roosterfish, and rounded out with several hard fighting jack cravalle, can be a very rewarding experience. Inshore, we also have non-stop action on breaking black skipjack tuna from 1 to 4 pounds.

Our family oriented hotels, decent prices and lots of billfish, Ixtapa / Zihuatanejo should give you what you came for, and at half the cost for a similar trip to Guatemala or Costa Rica.

For $150.00 a day, I or an American guide will fish with you on any boat you chose from this web page. Your lunch and bait is all included. Should you need fly rods and reels, we will provide them at no extra charge. Whether it be a panga or a larger cruiser, we will assist you and the crew to make your day a successful one - Ed Kunze.
